HAZARDOUS IDENTIFICATION
 

Silica Gel is synthetic amorphous silica not to be confused with crystalline silica. Epidemiological studies indicate low potential from adverse heath effects.

Inhalation : Causes irritation to the respiratory tract. Symptoms may include coughing, shortness of breath.

Ingestion : May cause obstruction in stomach, as it hardens with moisture. Symptoms include stomach pain, distress.

Skin Contact : Causes irritation, redness & pain

Eye Contact : Causes irritation, redness & pain.

Chronic Exposure : Repeated Exposure may cause symptoms similar to those listed for acute effects. Synthetic amorphous Silica does not produce Silicosis.

 
FIRST AID MEASURES
 

Inhalation : Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If Breathing is difficult give oxygen. Get medical attention.

Ingestion : Induce vomiting immediately as directed by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical attention.

Skin Contact : Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for atleast 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse.

Eye Contact : Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for atleast 15 minutes. Lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally. Get medical attention immediately.

Note to Physician : Drinking glycerin, gelatin solutions or large volumes of water may delay the hardening in the stomach. Surgical relief of obstruction, particularly in the pylorus may be necessary.

 
FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
 

Fire Extinguishing Media : Use any suitable for extinguishing surrounding media.

Unusual Fire & Explosive : Not considered to be a Fire and an explosion hazard.
In the event of a fire, wear full protective clothing and self - contained apparatus with full facepiece operated in the pressure demand or other positive pressure mode.

 
ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURE
 

Personal Precautions : Respiratory protection, eye protection

Spills : Sweep or vacuum the spill area, avoid rising dust. Not known to have any adverse affect on aquatic environment. It is insoluble & non-toxic.

Precautions for Safe Handling : Handling in airtight container, moisture proof and water proof.

Measures to prevent fire /Explosion : Non-flammable or explosive

Storage : Store in a cool, dry and ventilated area. Keep tightly sealed to protect quality of product.
 
EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
 

Avoid prolonged breathing of dust or contact with skin. Drying action of this material can cause irritation of mucous membranes of nose and throat & irritation of Skin. Wear protective handgloves and clean body covering clothing. Use chemical safety goggles. Maintain eye wash fountain and quick-drench facilities in work area.

Stability : Very hygroscopic. Stable under ordinary conditions of use and storage.

Hazardous Decomposition Products : Burning may produce Sulphur Oxides. Oxides of Silicons.

Hazardous Polymerizations : Will not occur.

Incompatibilities : Diazomethane, Aluminium, Phosphorous. Reacts with Hydrogen fluoride, strong acids, strong bases.

Conditions to Avoid : Air, moisture and incompatibles.
